Nottingham Forest revive deal for ex-Real Madrid star who ‘wants to play’ in Premier League
Hours after the deal looked dead, Nottingham Forest have reportedly returned to negotiations for Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
Following a fairly crazy summer transfer window, in which Forest signed 21 players, January has been much more reserved. Indeed, the Premier League’s 13th-placed side have welcomed just three new faces to the club.
Those are: Chris Wood, Gustavo Scarpa and Danilo. All three of those new additions have already stepped foot on the pitch in Forest colours.
The club will hope that they have a good impact, and keep them out of danger of relegation. If they continue playing how they have of late, that will be no problem.
However, it can’t hurt to ensure that happens, by making a couple of late tweaks to the squad.
Jonjo Shelvey could yet walk through the door on a deal from Newcastle. An experienced Premier League player joining Forest’s ranks certainly seems to be a good move.
However, it wouldn’t feel right if there wasn’t some element of craziness after the summer efforts.
Indeed, the signings of Renan Lodi, Jesse Lingard and Serge Aurier were all fairly unexpected ones from Forest and were just a few of a massive number of additions.
Navas deal back on
Now, it seems Forest and planning on offering up some madness in the final hours of the window. That comes in the form of a potential deal for PSG and ex-Real Madrid goalkeeper Navas.
Reports have suggested Forest and PSG have been in conversation over a deal today.
However, that seemed to have fizzled out, with Navas’ wages being the main stumbling block.
However, Sky Sports reports that it might not be as dead as it seemed. They report the clubs have ‘returned to the negotiating table to sort a last-minute loan’.
In addition, there could apparently be a ‘compromise over his wages’ which could be the breakthrough.
Navas signing strange, but makes sense
Forest have history with signing big-name players since their return to the top flight. However, a player who has more than 250 combined appearances between PSG and Real Madrid seems possibly the strangest yet, if it happens.
Given the Costa Rican has only played twice all season, it does make sense as to why he is ‘keen’ to move. Furthermore, he apparently ‘wants to play in the Premier League’.
What’s more, from Forest’s point of view, an injury to Dean Henderson means they could do with a new goalkeeper. As such, a loan signing is the best course of action.
So, while on the surface, it seems an odd move, it actually makes sense for all parties.
Forest will hope they can get past the major issue of Navas’ wages, as they’ll be getting a fantastic goalkeeper if they do.
