Nottingham Forest 'snubbed' by transfer target ahead of crunch January window
Teenager Mathys Tel is said to have turned down the chance of moving to Nottingham Forest in January.
The Reds have been linked with the Bayern Munich attacker ahead of the winter window and “initial contact” was said to have been made. However, it seems the player is not keen on a switch to the City Ground.
According to German newspaper Bild (via Fussball Transfers), Tel has “turned down” a loan request from Forest. It is claimed “only a bigger club” would be an option were he to depart midway through the season.
The 19-year-old joined Bayern from Rennes two years ago for a reported €20 million (£16.7m) fee. He signed a contract extension earlier this year to keep him at the club until 2029.
Up against tough competition for a place in the team, such as from the likes of England captain Harry Kane, he has struggled for regular game time this term. That has led to speculation about a potential January loan move, with a number of suitors said to be keeping tabs on him.
Werder Bremen have already been credited with an interest. And Fussball Transfers add other Premier League teams, along with Bundesliga sides Borussia Mönchengladbach, FC Augsburg and VfB Stuttgart have also been eyeing him up.
Bolstering head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s resources at the top end of the pitch is sure to be on the Reds’ agenda when the transfer window reopens. They tried to add another striker to their ranks in the summer but did not manage to get a deal over the line.
