Nottingham Forest told key dates as Premier League drop 2025/26 season reveal
Nottingham Forest have been informed of some key dates for the 2025/26 season as the Premier League have announced when the campaign will start and end.
Given their excellent start to the 2024/25 term, the Reds will hope to avoid a relegation fight this time around. Barring a significant collapse in form, they will expect to secure a fourth successive year in English football’s top tier.
The Premier League have now confirmed the 2025/26 season will start on Saturday, August 16, 2025. The campaign will reach its conclusion on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
In a statement, the Premier League said: “The Premier League 2025/26 season dates have been confirmed, with the opening match round starting on Saturday 16 August 2025. The final match round will be played on Sunday 24 May 2026, when all matches will kick off simultaneously as usual.
“The schedule continues to allow more rest time for players over the festive match-round period, with no two rounds taking place within 60 hours of each other. This is in keeping with commitments made to clubs to address the congested Christmas and New Year schedule.”
The 2025/26 campaign will be made up of 33 weekends and five rounds of midweek matches. No fixtures will be played on Christmas Eve.
The Premier League added: “The start date of 16 August allows for the maximum player rest time available – 83 clear days – from the end of the 2024/25 season. The season end date of 24 May 2026 ensures the Premier League season finishes ahead of the FIFA 2026 World Cup call-up period.”
The 2026 World Cup - taking place across the USA, Canada and Mexico - starts on Thursday, June 11. The final will be held on Sunday, July 19.
Nuno Espirito Santo's Forest are currently fifth in the table as they prepare for the action to resume following the final international break of 2024. They make the trip to the capital to play Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off). This season ends on Sunday, May 25, with the Reds signing off with a home game against Chelsea
