Nottingham Forest transfer blow as club chief addresses interest in £19m-rated striker
Nottingham Forest-linked striker Yuri Alberto has been ruled out of a January transfer by his club’s president.
Strengthening their attacking resources will be key for the Reds in the winter window as they look to push on in the Premier League. They have been credited with an interest in Corinthians front man Alberto and reports from Brazil earlier this week suggested a £19 million offer would be on the cards.
The 23-year-old has made no secret of his desire to test himself in English football, calling it a “dream” move. However, it seems a “not for sale” sign has now been placed on his head.
"He will not leave," Corinthians chief Augusto Melo told Brazilian publication UOL. "He is very happy here.
“We started the year with a lot of youth players, we didn't have a squad or credibility in the market to sign players. Today, thank God, everyone wants to come to Corinthians. We are not going to get rid of anyone and the idea is to keep this squad."
Despite coming in for some criticism from fans, Alberto has played a key role in helping to turn around Corinthians’ season. He has scored 11 goals in 25 league games and has been vital in fending off the threat of relegation.
West Ham United, Everton, Newcastle United and Brentford have also reportedly been keeping tabs on him. Wolverhampton Wanderers were linked earlier in the year and a switch to Southampton fell through in the summer.
“I dream of playing in Europe,” the Brazilian recently said. “I have a big dream. I’m very happy here at Corinthians, but I think that if something comes up that benefits the club and me, we’re open. The priority is England. I think it suits my style of play.”
Forest tried to bring in a striker during the summer window but did not manage to get a deal over the line. Chris Wood has been in excellent form for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side this term, but with Taiwo Awoniyi yet to really get going having another forward option would be beneficial.
