Nuno confirms Nottingham Forest transfer reality as 'difficult' admission made
Nottingham Forest are well aware they are operating in a “very difficult” transfer window as they weigh up making tweaks to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad.
Given the strength in depth the dressing room already possesses, the Reds do not need to do too much work when it comes to overseeing new additions this month. Sourcing another forward is on the agenda, though, as they target extra firepower up front.
Forest are yet to make any signings but head coach Nuno has confirmed they are “in the market”. However, he has stressed that trying to operate in the winter window comes with certain challenges.
“We are in the market, that’s not an if,” the Portuguese said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday night’s Premier League clash with Liverpool (8pm kick-off). “But the transfer window in January is very difficult to operate in, and we are aware of that.
“One of the things we are sure about - and it’s not an if - is that we have a good squad. We have good options and healthy players - Danilo is coming along and Ibrahim (Sangare) is closer to returning.
“This is not an if, this is a reality, we have a good squad. This is what we have to focus on, our players and how we want to continue in the competition. No matter what happens the ones that are here are the ones that are going to solve the problems.”
The club have been in talks with striker Chris Wood, full-back Ola Aina, defender Murillo and attacker Morgan Gibbs-White about securing their futures. Nuno says discussions are progressing well.
An automatic year’s extension is set to be triggered on Aina’s contract, which is due to expire in the summer. However, talks have taken place regarding a further extension for the Nigeria international. Wood’s current deal is due to run out at the end of the campaign but the Reds are keen to retain his services. Murillo and Gibbs-White are both on longer deals but Forest are keen to reward them with fresh terms.
“I think things are going normal and well. I expect everything is OK,” Nuno said.
