Ohio State running back Mike Weber has challenged Penn State running back Saquon Barkley and LSU running back Derrius Guice to a friendly wager during the 2017 college football season:
The bet: The running back who has the fewest yards among the three will have to buy the other two dinner.
Guice was the first to respond, bringing up an interesting dynamic to the competition:
Barkley also seemed confident he could win the wager:
All three backs rushed for more than 1,000 yards in 2016, but Weber might have bitten off more than he can chew with this bet. He ran for 1,096 yards and nine touchdowns; Guice ran for 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns; Barkley ran for 1,496 yards and 18 touchdowns.
If the NCAA has any say in the matter, these guys may have to wait until they're finished with their collegiate careers before they can follow through with the bet. Depending on the types of seasons they have, they could all enter the NFL Draft early after the 2017 season. Of course, the fear of losing this wager might just be a big enough motivator for everyone involved.
All the more reason for them to show out this season.
