Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was caught on camera berating a struggling Jesse Lingard during Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Manchester City.

United were knocked out of the competition despite Nemanja Matic’s goal earning a 1-0 win on the night at the Etihad, with City setting up a Wembley meeting with Aston Villa next month thanks to a 3-2 aggregate win.

Having scored his first goal in English domestic football for almost exactly a year in the 6-0 routing of Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup at the weekend, Lingard was back to the kind of disappointing form that has marred his season so far, and seen him lose his place in both United’s regular first XI and Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

After watching his midfielder give away possession with heavy touches on several occasions, Solskjaer was seen voicing his frustrations from the touchline, appearing to warn: “Jesse, one more time and you’re f****** off”.

Soon after, the Norwegian followed through on his promise, replacing Lingard with Andreas Pereira.
