Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly turned down the opportunity to return to Molde FK as manager.

The former Manchester United boss has been out of work since leaving Old Trafford back in November 2021. He spent three years at the helm after returning in 2018 - 11 years after his playing days for the club.

Norwegian tabloid VG have reported that Solskjaer was approached over the vacant role at Molde after Erling Moe was sacked at the weekend. After losing in the cup final on Saturday, the Norwegian side will be without European football next season.

The report states Solskjaer was 'contacted' on Sunday about taking the job for a third time following two successful spells with the club. However, he is said to have rebuffed another return.

The 51-year-old coached Molde between 2011 to 2014 before being reappointed in 2015 for three seasons. Elsewhere, the Daily Mail report the Norwegian has 'no intention' of returning to the dugout despite 'various offers.'

It's said he is in the process of building a house in Kristiansund, an island in Norway. "Now I do exactly what I want and enjoy myself," Solskajer told Norwegian radio NRK podcast Bakrommet last month. "I'm moving in in a couple of weeks. I have reached a position where I can pick and choose, and I am lucky there. Financially, I don't need anything."

Solskjaer works part-time as a match analyst for UEFA and although he seems to have no plans to return to management, Solskjaer hasn't ruled out a job in international football in the future. "It must be something exciting enough, together with the right people," he added.

"But I feel so well now that there must be something that triggers me enough for me to choose to travel from Nordmore [in Norway]. I think that a national team could suit me, but then it can't be on the other side of the globe. I had two options, but it would have taken half a day to travel, and there is a time difference in the picture, so I opted out. Even if I could then take part in the championship."

The former United manager also hasn't ruled out taking the Norway job following the news that Stale Solbakken will likely step down following the 2026 World Cup. "I am a proud Norwegian. If the question comes up, when Stale finds out that he doesn't want it anymore, I'm happy to enter into a conversation," Solskjaer revealed.

"I would say yes any day of the week. It feels wrong to sit and talk about jobs that other people have. But of course, I would say yes. No, I'm not [waiting for the job]. Firstly, nothing is better than Norway qualifying for a [major] tournament. If we manage to do it now and qualify for the World Cup in 2026, it's time.

"That's what we all hope for. And we hope we do it as soon as possible, while Stale is there."
