Oleksandr Zinchenko will be hoping to get more opportunities in midfield should his move to Arsenal be completed.

The versatile Manchester City man is edging closer to joining the Gunners, with talks continuing between the two clubs over a deal in the region of £35million. A final fee is expected to be agreed in the coming days, with negotiations over personal terms taking place too.

Mikel Arteta has previously worked with Zinchenko, when assistant at City, and Arsenal hope that will help the club to secure their man, as it did with Gabriel Jesus earlier in the summer.

The Ukrainian is set to provide another option at left-back, an important factor for Arsenal due to Kieran Tierney’s injury record, while also competing for a spot in midfield.

While at City, Zinchenko has been primarily used as a left-back, though when playing for his country he starts in midfield. Pep Guardiola has never viewed him as first-choice during his time in Manchester, so Zinchenko will be eyeing more regular starts at the Emirates should the move go through.

Previous comments from the 25-year-old reveal that his preference is for minutes in midfield, believing that suits his attributes more than playing at full-back.

“I am not that fast, like I wish, so I prefer to play in the middle,” Zinchenko told City’s official YouTube channel.
