'Only a fool would write off Liverpool title chances - for one simple reason'
Former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon reckons it would be foolish to write off Liverpool this season due to the quality of their squad.
The Reds tasted defeat for the first time this season last weekend against Nottingham Forest when Arne Slot's side fell 1-0 at Anfield in what was a frustrating performance by Liverpool. A sloppy performance in the final third from Liverpool saw their profligacy in front of goal punished by former Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, who came off the bench to net Forest's winner in the second half.
However, prior to the defeat, the Reds had been riding the crest of a wave after winning their first three Premier League games of the season without having conceded. Last season, Liverpool challenged for the Premier League title, going up against Arsenal and Manchester City for the majority of the campaign before falling away down the stretch.

And once again this season, this time under Slot instead of Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool look to be title contenders, despite having not brought in a major marquee signing this summer. There may be some doubts about the Reds title credentials, but one pundit who is urging fans not to write off Liverpool is ex-Arsenal star Lee Dixon.
"It'd be foolish to say that Liverpool aren’t going to compete for the Premier League title this season because they’ve got so much quality in their squad," Dixon said speaking to Gambling Zone.
"I love watching them play, I love their style. They've got some great forwards. Slot’s come in and he's basically got the same group of players that Klopp had. He's trying to play in a slightly different way, and that takes a bit of time. I thought Liverpool looked really good in the first three games. They had an energy about them.
"You can see that Slot’s tweaked certain elements of their game and is trying different things compared to Klopp. I don’t think anyone saw them losing at home to Nottingham Forest, but that can happen in the Premier League. I think Liverpool will definitely be in the top four at the end of the season.
Liverpool.com says: "Liverpool look in good shape to challenge for the Premier League title this season, but games like their result against Forest are a reminder they are not the finished article yet despite their fine start to the campaign. Arsenal and Man City look in good shape already this season and represent a formidable challenge for Liverpool to overcome. However, they did match the two last season for the majority of the title race and should be looking to do so again this season."
