OPINION - Talking Point: Are the French overreacting about fish finger croissants?

The traditional snack consisting of fish fingers between sliced white bread has been taken in a different direction.

Cawa Coffee, which describes itself as an artisan bakery based in south Yorkshire and serving in railway stations, has controversially swapped out the bread by placing the fish fingers inside a sliced croissant. It adds tartare sauce – not uncommon, though many might prefer ketchup – along with cheese in a further supposed faux pas.

This appears to have upset Anglo-French relations just days before England and France go head-to-head at the World Cup. Political journalist Julien Hoez tweeted a photo of the offending dish, describing it as “Overcooked, poorly balanced, and devoid of coherent, positive taste”.

However, the cafe says it “can’t make enough of them”, describing the toasted and melted item as “ultimate comfort food”.
