Oprah to reveal unseen footage of bombshell interview with Meghan and Harry

The Royal Family is bracing for more dramatic revelations as Oprah Winfrey prepares to show unseen footage of her bombshell interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on US morning television.

The chat show host will be a guest on CBS This Morning in New York from 12pm GMT time to share “never-before-seen clips” from her interview that has rocked Buckingham Palace since airing in the US overnight.

In a preview for the programme, CBS host Gayle King, who is also editor of Oprah’s O Magazine, said there had been a “whole lotta chatter” about the interview.

And a tweet from the show said: “Oprah Winfrey will join us live with never-before-seen clips from her interview with Duchess of Sussex, Meghan and Prince Harry.”

The full interview will be shown in the UK on ITV tonight at 9pm.

KJ Matthews, an entertainment journalist based in Los Angeles, told BBC Breakfast today: “I’m hearing now Oprah will appear live on the CBS Morning Show to reveal and show clips of the interview that we have not seen, so there’s even more.

“There could be more bombshells that we see. It’s just the gift that keeps on giving, and it’s quite shocking. So I will be surprised to see what else she can drop on us.”

It comes after the Sussexes accused an unnamed royal of racism and Meghan revealed that she had got to the stage where she “just didn’t want to be alive anymore” whilst pregnant.

She claimed that when she turned to the institution of the monarchy for help, her request was turned down.

“I went to the institution, and I said that I needed to go somewhere to get help.

“I said that I’ve never felt this way before and I need to go somewhere. And I was told that I couldn’t, that it wouldn’t be good for the institution.”

Meghan also brought up the subject of Archie’s skin colour causing “concern”, telling a stunned Winfrey that a member of the royal family had raised the issue with Harry.

The duchess said: “That was relayed to me from Harry, those were conversations the family had with him, and I think it was really hard to be able to see those as compartmentalised conversations.”

When she was questioned by Winfrey on who had those conversations, Meghan did not give a name and said: “I think that would be very damaging to them.”

Harry was later asked about the episode and said: “That conversation, I am never going to share. At the time it was awkward, I was a bit shocked.”

He said he was “not comfortable” sharing the question he was asked by the unnamed person, but said it happened “right at the beginning” of their relationship.

The Duchess of Sussex has suggested it was her son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor’s “birthright” to be a prince and the decision not to give him a title went against convention.

She expressed her shock at being told he would not get security and the idea of him “not being safe”, and said she wanted him to have the title so he could have police protection.

Meghan also suggested that the decision was taken because of Archie’s race.

The duchess shared her upset at the “idea of the first member of colour in this family, not being titled in the same way that other grandchildren would be”.

“It’s not their right to take it away,” she added.

Oprah Winfrey asked in the televised tell-all: “Do you think it’s because of his race? I know that’s a loaded question.”

Meghan replied: “In those months when I was pregnant, all around this same time, so we (had) the conversation of he won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title.

“And also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”

But Archie was not entitled to be a prince because of rules set down by King George V more than 100 years ago.

Only Prince George – as a great-grandson of the monarch down the direct line of succession to the throne – was originally entitled to be a prince.

He is the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales.

The Queen stepped in ahead of George’s birth to issue a Letters Patent to ensure all the Cambridges’ children would have fitting titles.

Princess Charlotte would have been a Lady and Prince Louis a Lord had the Queen not intervened, and they would have not been HRHs.

But they are the children of a future monarch, whereas Archie is not, and he will move down the line of succession if the Cambridge children have their own families.
