Orlando Pirates coach Jonevret happy to move further away from relegation zone

The Swedish trainer was pleased to see the Buccaneers move into the PSL top eight and 11 points clear of the relegation zone

Orlando Pirates head coach Kjell Jonevret was content with his charges' performance against  Chippa United on Saturday night.

The Buccaneers beat the Chilli Boys 2-1 in a PSL game at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg.

Thamsanqa Gabuza opened the scoring with an acrobatic effort for Bucs in the first half, before Thabo Matlaba sealed the home side's victory in the second half.

"Well, I am happy with how we played in the first half because I think we attacked well and also defended well. We did not give them a lot of chances," Jonevret told SuperSport TV.

"We scored a beautiful goal, but I think we should have scored one or two more goals.

"But we made a mistake on the stroke of half-time and they made it 1-1, and it changed the complexion of the game," he continued.

"If we had gone into the half-time break with a 1-0 lead then in the second half, we could have played smart and play on the counter. In the end, I am happy with the three points.

"We have now increased the gap between us and a few teams in the bottom half on the league table and we also moved closer to the top half teams," Jonevret added.

"Overall, it was a good week for us having recorded a draw (against Baroka FC) and a victory. So, yes, we are on our way," he concluded.
