Tottenham have unsuccessfully asked about a deal for Roma winger Nicola Zalewski following their interest in Nicolo Zaniolo, according to a report.

Spurs have enjoyed a bumper summer transfer window, netting six signings already. They are additions all across the pitch which will help Antonio Conte’s men push on.

But reports have claimed that there could be one more top signing on the way at the north London club.

Tottenham still have interest in Roma’s Italy international Zaniolo. While the 23-year-old is typically an attacking midfielder, Conte reportedly sees him as a wing-back option too.

Spurs director of football Fabio Paratici, who used to work at Juventus, has reportedly held discussions with Roma about Zaniolo.

But according to Corriere dello Sport, Tottenham have also enquired about a move for Zalewski.

The 20-year-old has shot to fame at Roma in recent times and is also a rising star on the international stage for Poland.

His rise has therefore also attracted Paris Saint-Germain’s attention, but they – like Tottenham – have been told to move on.

Roma boss Jose Mourinho is a big fan of Zalewski and thinks he has a bright future. His club agree, hence the decision to hand him a new contract last December.

Those terms run until 2025 and so Roma have no plans to sell Zalewski – at least not this summer.

Nicola Zalewski a promising talent

The versatile attacker made his Roma breakthrough at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

He appeared in the Europa League semi-final second leg against Manchester United, while also making a Serie A cameo. However, he became a fully-fledged first-teamer last term with 24 appearances.

Zalewski had to wait until the back end of the campaign to register his first and only two goal contributions.

But those assists in the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the Europa Conference League – on the way to Roma’s triumph in the final – came at the perfect time and are a sign of his blossoming talent.

Roma therefore believe the Poland star is only just getting started and so are excited to see what he can produce next term.

Tottenham should monitor Roma star

Spurs have already bolstered significantly this summer and they should keep an eye on Zalewski’s progress.

Roma are clearly intent on keeping him and so talk of his future will no doubt emerge again next summer.

Until then, Zaniolo looks a much more achievable target for Spurs, who could yet round off their summer spending with a final impressive addition.

Having won Serie A with Inter and Juventus – and the Premier League with Chelsea – Conte is taking that know-how into Tottenham.

He knows depth all across the pitch – and versatile players able to fill in in a range of positions – are vital for a title-winning team.
