I was part of the Arsenal Invincibles and I know how Mikel Arteta plans to overthrow Man City
Martin Keown has suggested that Arsenal have what it takes to win the Premier League. The Gunners will be eager to finally dethrone Manchester City this season after falling short in the title race two years in a row.
During the 2022/23 campaign, Arsenal were just weeks away from crowning themselves champions of England but, shortly after William Saliba picked up an injury, they conceded first place to Pep Guardiola's side. Then, on the final day of last term, the north Londoners needed Manchester City to drop points against West Ham to win the title.
They stormed past the Hammers and won a fourth successive championship, crushing Arsenal's dreams. This season, Arteta will be desperate to finally overthrow his former boss, who's already managed to establish a two-point lead at the top of the table.
While the Gunners have some ground to make up, the campaign is, of course, still in its infancy. Speaking on TNT Sports ahead of the two sides' clash this weekend, Keown claimed that Arsenal have shown 'signs of champions'.
When quizzed on the north Londoners' away form, the Invincible said: "It's the sign of champions. I know they've not been champions yet, but what you do away from home – there's no soft underbelly anymore.
"This is a really determined Arsenal, who are in the fight for every match. You get tested. You come here (the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, home to Atalanta), they're going to ask questions of you and I think there's enough there."

In 2024, Arsenal have played 11 games away from home, winning 10 and drawing one – all while only conceding three goals and keeping nine clean sheets. Keown added: "I was really impressed with [Jurrien] Timber at the weekend. The number of goals that they're conceding... just three! That's remarkable. That stands up against any era and against any team."
Then, on the Gunners' success from set-pieces, Keown added: "It's the land of the giants again isn't it. When you go back and look back into the past – when you look at Vieira and the [Emmanel] Petits in tunnel. These are big guys now.
"Timber is another one. The same DNA as the other two through the door. They're physical, strong players and they're very difficult to play against."
