Patrick Ewing says Georgetown has 'nepotism clause' and people are laughing

Patrick Ewing's son won't be allowed to stay on staff.

Patrick Ewing will be the men's basketballcoach of Georgetownbut won't be able to keep his son, Patrick Ewing Jr., on the Hoyasstaff.

Patrick Jr. apparently is restricted from being anassistant on his father'sstaff because of a "nepotism clause." Many workplaces have similar clauses to avoid people in power favoringfamily members, but Georgetown wasn't believed to be one of those places given its history.

As many have pointed out, the "nepotism clause" is a bit ironic because John Thompson III was hired at the school after his father's success. The younger Thompsonalso remained at the university for several years despite mediocre results.

The quote is also interesting due to some of the recent news involving the White House. On Tuesday, Eric Trump said, "Nepotism is kind of a factor of life" when asked about the roles Donald Trump's children have in the president's administration. Georgetown is based in D.C., which ties it together even more.

Having family members on staff isn't disallowed everywhere. Just a few years ago, Richard Pitino was on fatherRick'sLouisville coaching staff as an assistant.
