Patriots release Ochocinco after one season

The New England Patriots released six-times Pro Bowl receiver Chad Ochocinco after one season with the organisation.

Ochocinco, who had 15 receptions for 276 yards and one touchdown during the 2011 NFL regular season, played in two of the Patriots three playoff games and caught one pass for 21 yards in February's Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants.

The 34-year-old receiver, known for his attention-getting antics on and off the field, joined the Patriots last July after spending 10 seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Ochocinco, who legally changed his name from Chad Johnson in 2008, appeared on "Dancing with the Stars" but is widely known in NFL circles for his elaborate touchdown celebrations while playing with the Bengals.
