Paul McShane's next move confirmed after completing Championship move
York have confirmed the signing of former Man of Steel Paul McShane. As exclusively revealed by Rugby League Live, the England international has joined the Knights on a two-year contract following his departure from Castleford Tigers.
The 34-year-old left the Tigers after ten season, a stint that saw him make over 200 appearances for the club in the process. A move to Australia was planned to finish his career but he has now linked up with the Championship side, a move that will also see him join Mark Applegarth's coaching staff as he pursues a career beyond his time on the field.
McShane is York's first confirmed signing for 2025 and he is set to head up an eye-catching off-season for the club, who are looking to build on an excellent start under Applegarth which saw them reach the play-off semi-finals.

"It's really exciting," McShane said. "It's a new challenge and the role I'm going into is something I've wanted to do for a long time.
"It's a great opportunity at a good club, with a good team and a good coaching set up already in place. They're ambitious and want to push for Super League. If I can play a part in that, that'll be great."
Applegarth added: "I’m really delighted to have Paul on board. I'm really looking forward to working with him and helping get him started on his professional coaching journey as well.
"First and foremost, we’ve signed him as a player. He’s still got some quality years ahead of him. He’s been there and done it all in terms of what he’s achieved in his role at Castleford.
"He’ll add a lot of leadership to the team. He’ll be a mentor for a lot of our younger players. He also knows the standard needed to achieve at top level rugby, so I’m absolutely delighted to have Paul on board."
