Paul Merson: Chelsea must sign another defender because David Luiz 'got found out again' during FA Cup final

Paul Merson says Chelsea must recruit another defender this summer because the Arsenal legend claims David Luiz "got found out again" during the FA Cup final in May.

Chelsea arrived to their FA Cup final game against London rivals Arsenal off the back of lifting the Premier League title just days before, but went on to lose the match 2-1 following a poor collective performance at Wembley.

The Gunners opened the scoring through Alexis Sanchez, who latched onto Luiz's headed clearance and then fired the ball in, before Olivier Giroud set up Aaron Ramsey for the winner in the second half.

Luiz has proved a solid addition to Chelsea's first team since returning to the club last summer, with the Brazilian playing at the heart of Antonio Conte's three-man defence.

Chelsea already need to strengthen their defensive options this summer following the departure of captain John Terry.

But Merson has now claimed the club must buy another defender not just to fill the void left by Terry's exit but because he claims Luiz - who has been superb for Chelsea - "got found out again" in the FA Cup final.

"I think Conte needs to bring in another defender," Merson told Sky Sports.

"I know everybody goes on about how good David Luiz has been but he got found out again in the FA Cup final.

"He had no awareness of the danger for the Aaron Ramsey goal.

"They looked tired in the cup final so they definitely need some more numbers in there to be able to balance Champions League and defending the Premier League title, especially with everybody out to beat the champions."
