Paul Pogba has denied any feeling that his second spell with Manchester United was a mistake after being unveiled as a Juventus player for the second time.

Pogba recently completed his return to Juventus on a free transfer. It is the second time they have signed him under those conditions after the end of his time with Manchester United.

During his previous four seasons with Juventus, Pogba developed into a world-class player. Indeed, by 2016, Manchester United broke football’s all-time transfer record to bring him back to the Premier League.

Across the six seasons that followed, the Frenchman divided opinion. Ultimately, he left United for a second time at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

A return to Juventus always seemed a likely option for the 29-year-old. After finally making it happen, he responded to questions as a member of their squad again at a press conference on Tuesday.

Pogba told reporters: “I am happy to be back here. Here, I am at home. People welcomed me like in a dream and I can only be very happy to be back here.”

Pogba was free to negotiate with Juventus from January, due to his contract entering its final six months. He has now revealed that there were thoughts about a return to Turin while he was still a Man Utd player.

He explained: “It’s always a pleasure to see the affection of Juventus fans over the years. I was focused on doing well in Manchester. But at the end of this year I thought I would like to come back, and I did.”

Pogba added that his relationship with Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri was another important factor behind his decision.

He said: “I always stayed in touch, even in recent years, I have always had a good relationship with him. We have lived wonderful years together. This was the right time to come back here with the right person.”

Elaborating on what he discussed in advance with his manager, Pogba revealed the conversations were simple. In turn, he let his heart make his decision.

He continued: “Mister Allegri told me he wanted me to come back here. I know the club, I know the culture of Juve and as I said before, I simply followed my heart.”

No Man Utd regrets for Paul Pogba

Despite the mixed reception he got in the Premier League, Pogba insisted he is content with the career path he has chosen up to this point.

The 2018 World Cup winner said: “I believe in destiny. I am happy with all the choices I have made.

“Sometimes things don’t go as you would like, but I am happy with those years in Manchester. “I grew up, I learned a lot and I became a man. Now the present counts: I’m here!”

After struggling to fit into United’s system, there will be intrigue over Pogba’s role back at Juventus.

He answered: “I know that here we play more with a three-man midfield, but the most important thing will be to be on the pitch and play.”

In doing so, he will get to add to his 177 appearances for the club. He will also be hoping to put more medals in his cabinet after both Man Utd and Juventus went without last season.
