Simon played a bit of the song, but admitted that he was a little tired of it. So Colbert offered his own take of the song. He sang, “Hello, lamppost, nice to see ya. We might get bombed by North Korea. We’re gettin’ close to World War III. So run for the shelters — feelin’ groovy.’

The breezy tune seemed to lessen the blow of Colbert’s stream of worrisome news headlines. He continued, “The Artic’s melting, seas are boiling. These aren’t the first pants that I’m soiling. We won’t survive the century. We’re all doomed — I’m feeling groovy.”
