Paul Warne expects to hold talks with Conor Washington after admitting the striker may want to move elsewhere if he is not playing first-team football with Derby County.

The former Rotherham and QPR striker has yet to appear in the Championship this season and has not even made the substitutes' bench. Warne says Washington is fit and training but given the performances of those ahead of him, has just been unable to make a breakthrough.

And Derby's head coach says the forward, who is in the last year of his contract, may well consider his options in January if the situation remains the same.

"He's doing really well in training and myself and the coaches spoke about him the other day," Warne said. "It's frustrating, particularly as a senior player, when you feel you are doing everything right but not getting anywhere.

"I've had really honest conversations with Conor and just said, 'look, you will have to wait for an opportunity'. Come January, if he has had no opportunities, and I know how the world works, he may want to play elsewhere. He hasn't said that, but I would say the same, by the way, as a player. If I knew my options were limited, I would want to go play somewhere else.

"When you get older, you become more impatient. You don't want to waste anything, but if it is the right thing for the club that he stays, then that's the decision we will make.

"As with all my players, I like to think I have 100 per cent respect both ways. We will have a chat about it and come to a decision, but as we're still in November, there's no need."
