Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola could stay at the club for a further year amid speculation that he is wanted by the FA as the next England manager. The Spaniard has just six months remaining on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium.

Liverpool will be watching developments closely as they compete with Guardiola’s side for the Premier League title this season. Arne Slot has had a brilliant start to life as Liverpool boss with the Reds sitting at the top of the table after the first seven games.

Liverpool have picked up 18 points from their games, one more than both Man City and Arsenal in second and third place respectively. Man City are trying to lift the title for an unprecedented fifth time in a row, with Liverpool the last team to beat them to the trophy.

The reigning champions could possibly be impacted by speculation over the future of Guardiola. Reports on Monday claim that the manager has been sought out by the FA who have made informal contact over the England job.

However, the Telegraph report that while there has been an approach from the FA, Guardiola is ‘considering’ staying with Man City for another 12 months. The reports add that the manager could take until next year to decide on his future.

The Three Lions are on the lookout for a new manager following the departure of Gareth Southgate this summer. U21 boss Lee Carsley has been in interim charge for the Nations League games, but has hinted that he would not be interested in taking on the role on a permanent basis.

Guardiola has been in charge of Man City since the summer of 2016. Earlier this week, the 53-year old was giving nothing away when speaking about his future.

Asked about the links to the England job he told Italian TV show Che Tempo Che Fa: “It's not true. I'm Manchester City manager.

“I've not decided anything, everything can happen. So I don't know. I till need to reflect and decide what I want to do."
