Pep Guardiola reveals what he plans to do instead of watching Manchester United face West Brom

Pep Guardiola says he will play golf with his son rather than watch Manchester United’s match with West Brom at Old Trafford, even though a slip by the home side would see Manchester City clinch the title.

Having watched his side convincingly beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Wembley to go within two points of the championship, the Catalan also said that the Premier League is the hardest to win due to the physicality, and said it would be one of his most satisfying victories – particularly because of the manner they did it.

Guardiola said the sensational manner they are set to do it is unbelievable.“Tomorrow, I have golf with my son,” he said, before joking that it would be “bogey, double bogey, birdie”.

“Football is unpredictable, you know that.”

When asked about the difficulty of the English league compared to Germany and Spain, Guardiola said it was the toughest.

“It is more difficult. The physicality, the weather conditions, the amount of games… it’s tough. The Premier League is so, so tough. That’s why winning the way we did [gives extra satisfaction]. We did it in the way we want to do, and of course for the capacity of the club. The club has spent a lot of money, like other clubs, but it’s true. The club has spent a lot of money for these amazing players.

“We played so good against United [last week in the 3-2 defeat], the same against Liverpool. We had chances. The team was so good for eight, nine months, it was not realistic … they have my respect. What they have done this season is unbelievable.

“You cannot imagine. It’s every day. You can win the Champions League, seven games … and then one bad game you are out. But with the league, it’s every day. If we manage to win the Premier League, it will be one of the best seasons I ever lived as a football player or manager. The amount of goals, the amount of chances, the points. It’s because the players are so good.

“When one team has to hear every day from December that we are champions, it is so difficult to keep focus. So, in a competition like the Champions League, especially with some of the decisions, we could not compete closer to Liverpool. With every other game, like against Wigan [Athletic], 10 v 11, we were there. It’s incredible.

“It will be one of the best, by far. I don’t want to say… to win titles in every league is important. My first league with my club Barcelona was a dream come true, also to come here and win the Champions League against Manchester United, especially the way we played that day. It was so nice. So this is nice.”
