Pep Guardiola welcomes back ‘outstanding’ Antonio Conte to the Premier League with Tottenham

Pep Guardiola has hailed Antonio Conte’s managerial record after the Italian was announced as Tottenham’s new head coach.

Conte, who led Inter Milan to their first Serie A title in over a decade last season, has signed an 18-month deal at Spurs with the option to extend for a further year.

Guardiola joined Man City in the summer of 2016, the same period that Conte arrived in west London. His team finished third that season, 15 points behind Conte’s table-topping Chelsea side.

Speaking ahead of City’s Champions League clash with Club Brugge on Wednesday night, Guardiola was full of praise for Conte and what he achieved at his previous clubs.

“Welcome back to the Premier League,” he said.

“His career speaks for himself. An outstanding manager who has had success everywhere.”

Conte got the better of Guardiola in both of the league matches between the two sides in the 2016/17 campaign, but City won home and away against the Blues the following season.
