Perth top racing tip: Improving Nights Of Doyen offers each-way value

Nights Of Doyen started life in Ireland and showed ability postmarking 96 on debut in a NH flat race on yielding ground, then 88 on his second outing over hurdles where he stayed on under tender handling. He was sold to the small UK owner/trainer Kate Leckenby who only has one other horse in training, so you know Nights of Doyen will get pampered and have lots of love and attention.

The five-year-old gelding has run twice for Kate, the first without its usual tongue tie, where the jockey said it made a noise and was pulled up. On his second run the tongue tie was back on, and he travelled strongly, but just a shade too keen.

Now the horse had a rough race, getting struck into and squeezed, and he lost his position coming into the home straight when the leaders kicked for home.

I expected him to tail off, but instead, the horse got a second wind and stayed on (under tender handling) when the race was lost and was only beaten 25 lengths by Euchan Falls - that might sound a lot, but in the last two furlongs he could have run the winner a lot closer if pushed harder.

Suggested bet: Nights Of Doyen each-way in the 17:00 at Perth

That was on soft going and today's yielding ground looks more in Nights of Doyen's favour.

When you also factor in the interference and the likelihood he won't travel quite as keenly, then I can see him reversing the form. Euchan Falls won again before his winning sequence ended and Nights of Doyen gets a very handy 14-pound pull. Considering Euchan Falls is near the head of the market at 7/1, it's incredible that we could back Nights of Doyen at 125/1. That price is now long gone, with four or even five places available he is worth a point each-way even at a quarter of those odds.
