PETER JAMESON has hailed teenage York City supporter Jack Ratcliffe as an inspiration after the pair’s post-match celebrations at Brackley Town.

York secured their place in Saturday’s Vanarama National League North play-off final (3pm) thanks to a shock 1-0 win away to Brackley.

Clubman of the Year Jameson was City’s hero once again, with the number one making a superb late first-half penalty save from Jimmy Armson to deny Town an equaliser.

In the immediate aftermath of the victory, Jameson picked out 15-year-old Jack, who has Down’s Syndrome and studies at Applefields School, from the crowd and the teenager was at the heart of York’s jubilant on-field celebrations.

“I had to go looking for young Jack at the end,” said Jameson. “What a star he is. Every day I see him, he’s got a smile on his face, he’s an amazing lad and he makes me feel better.

“Every time I see him, he’s always so happy. It makes me think that life should be like that.

“When I saw him, I thought, ‘He’s got to get on the pitch’.

“Every match day I see him and I look forward to seeing him because he’s a superstar.

“I’ve got a lot of time for him and his mum and I know all the lads do too.”

Jack’s mum, Ali Metcalfe, from Clifton, praised the openness of the York players in making her son feel welcome at the club.

“I thought Pete was just going to come over and give him a hug, it wasn’t planned at all,” she said of the celebrations at St James’ Park.

“Jack just loves Pete, Scott (Barrow), Olly (Dyson) and the whole team so much.

“For him to be able to go on the pitch without the huge crowd of fans on there, that meant so much to him.

“I think the pictures just speak for him. He loved it.

“The team just make Jack feel so welcome and so happy. It’s beautiful for me to see him enjoying himself so much and getting so much from it.”
