Peter Schmeichel rips 'so bad' Celtic as legend laments missed opportunity
His son Kasper was involved in key moments throughout but Peter Schmeichel reckons Celtic were the architects of their own downfall.
Club Brugge rocked up for their Champions League tie fully aware of the challenge ahead but were soon a goal to the good after Cameron Carter-Vickers passed the ball into an empty net. Daizen Maeda’s equaliser after the interval got them back in it, but the former Manchester United goalkeeper reckons Brendan Rodgers’ side only have themselves to blame for not securing all three points.
The opening 45 minutes in particular were uncharacteristic from the hosts, with slack passes and poor attacking moves allowing Brugge to dominate the game and threaten at all. Schmeichel, working as a pundit for the game, reckoned the start was “so bad” and a missed opportunity for a Champions League win.

“Celtic started so bad and they made so many mistakes,” Schmeichel told CBS. “Cameron Carter-Vickers here, he is a fantastic player and he is instrumental to how well they are doing. He is very unlucky in this situation. But they gave too many chances away and Brugge looked like a fantastic team. There was no need for that.
“I see that as two points dropped. Brugge was a team when we saw the draw, it was one of the teams they were going to get three points out of If Celtic wants to go further in this tournament, then they need all their players to play well and they didn’t (against Brugge).”
