Peter Vindahl Jensen profiled as Celtic push Sparta Prague for transfer target

Celtic are hoping to land Peter Vindahl Jensen as their new goalkeeper this summer.

We at Football Scotland exclusively told you how the Hoops were speaking with his club, Sparta Prague, about signing the player in the coming weeks as they aim to find a suitable replacement for Joe Hart who retired at the end of last season with a league and cup Double. Celts have been linked with a whole host of goalkeepers since Hart's decision was made official but it's Vindahl Jensen at the top of the list.

The Scottish champions know they'll have to spend money on the Dane with the player only recently signed to a multi-year deal with the Czech giants. But what else do we know?

Football Scotland runs you through Vindahl Jensen's career with all we know about the goalie.

Who is Peter Vindahl Jensen?

The goalkeeper is a 26-year-old who was born in Helsingor, Denmark. He's 6ft 4in and is the current number one at Sparta. Vindahl Jensen made 47 appearances last season for the club and kept 15 clean sheets in all competitions. He was then signed after an initial loan spell before Celtic's recruitment team took their interest further.

The player started his career in Lyngby before moving to Nordsjaelland on a free as a youngster. He spent six years there before moving to the Netherlands with AZ Alkmaar. A loan to Nuremberg in Germany followed before he would eventually go to Prague on loan.

What are his credentials?

The goalie remains in his prime at just 26 which, for the position, is experienced but still considered relatively young.

He, too, won the league and cup Double last season to pick up his first silverware in the game at professional level. Vindahl Jensen has played for the Denmark under-21s and has been called up for the first-team but is yet to land his first cap having sat on the bench more than once.

The player has also experienced European football having played in the Europa League against Rangers back in 2023. He shut them out in one of the two legs. He also impressed against Liverpool.

What is his playing style?

The big man is an excellent shot stopper and has proven that over his career. He is also known for being good with the ball at his feet which is exactly what Rodgers looks for in his goalkeepers.

Oftentimes Vindahl Jensen attempts to get play going again as fast as possible with the ball in his hands which was a major part of Joe Hart's game at Parkhead.

Contract situation

We at Football Scotland explained how it might be a tricky deal to do simply for the fact that Sparta are keen to hold onto him.

The Czech club are also in a position of strength given the contract he recently signed so the Hoops will have to pay. The feeling is that they would want more than £4million.
