Peyton Barton, JaDarius Pigg set new school marks at Bearcat Invite

Feb. 4—Weight thrower Peyton Barton and 60-meter hurdler JaDarius Pigg set new school records and eight Lions logged first-place finishes during the Bearcat Invite last weekend at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.

Barton set a new school, facility and meet record with a 22.62-meter toss in the weight throw en route to a first-place finish.

Pigg ran the fifth-fastest men's 60-meter hurdle time in D-II this year with a new school record 7.91 seconds for first place in the event. The MSSU women also boasted a first-place finisher in the event, when Ashyiria Savage logged an 8.69 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.

Southern ruled the pole vault in both the men's and women's divisions.

The women claimed the top four spots in the vault with Holly Robinson claiming first with a 3.72-meter vault on no misses. Abby Hobbs was second with 3.72 meters on one miss, Emma Hobbs was third (3.27 meters) and Alyssa Jerome was fourth (3.12 meters).

Bastien Franck and Travis Greenfield combined for a 1-2 finish in the men's pole vault. Franck finished first with a 4.97-meter effort and Greenfield was runner-up with a 4.82-meter vault.

Cedric Pearson won the shot put with a personal best 18.40-meter put that ranks third in D-II this year.

Southern's Kaden Cole was first in the men's mile with a time of 4:14.73 and Riley Vickery also finished first in the women's 3,000-meter run with a personal best 9:58.33. Her time was more than five seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Luke Brumit was runner-up in the men's high jump with a 2.03-meter jump and Geordan Patrylak was second in the men's 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:28.59. Teammate Jaden Deaton (8:29.13) finished third in the event.

Other results included a 2-3-4 finish for the Lion women in the weight throw. Mallory Huber (17.64 meters) finished second, Briar Gillum (17.44 meters) finished third, and Womack (17.36 meters) was fourth. Gillum also logged a second-place finish in the shot put with a 14.01-meter effort.

The men's 4x400m relay (Matthew Haddock, Kyzer Gann-Vega, Miguel Solano and Pigg) finished third with a time of 3:19.24.

Fourth-place finishers included Chardae Overstreet (57.11 seconds) in the women's 400-meter dash, Lindsey Lopes (2:12.81) in the women's 800-meter run, and Gabrielle McPherson (5.35 meters) in the women's long jump.

Both the MSSU men and women will compete at the ninth annual Indoor Gorilla Classic Friday and Saturday at Pittsburg State University.
