England will be without Manchester City players Ellen White, Jill Scott and Karen Bardsley for their friendlies against Belgium later this month and Norway in September.

Neville has opted to rest Scott - arguably England’s standout player of the World Cup - to manage the Manchester City midfielder’s load ahead of the start of the Women’s Super League season. White and Bardsley miss out due to injury.

Chelsea’s Bethany England has been handed her first senior call-up and is one of four senior debutants in Neville’s 24-player squad. There are call-ups for Manchester City’s Aoife Mannion and two of the bronze medal-winning U20s World Cup squad in Clemson University goalkeeper Sandy MacIver and defender Anna Patten.

Neville warned that White and Bardsley are “probably going to be out for a couple of camps”, goalkeeper Bardsley with the hamstring injury that ruled her out of England’s final two World Cup matches and White with an injury picked up when training with Manchester City during their US tour last week.

“We’re hoping, saying our prayers, that they’re both going to be back for the Wembley game in November, but we’re not going to take any risks,” Neville said. “We want to make sure that those two big players for us are available for SheBelieves, for the England camps and hopefully available for the Olympics.”

“With Jill, I want her to focus on getting super fit. She’s someone who relies on her fitness, her energy. I want her to stay with City for her training and make sure she’s fit for October, November, for She Believes and the pathway forward.”

Patten, a graduate of Arsenal now playing for the University of South Carolina, has earned 42 caps at youth level since 2010, while MacIver was awarded the Golden Glove for her the 2018 tournament in France.

19 members of the Lionesses’ FIFA Women’s World Cup squad have been rewarded with call-ups. The Lionesses face Belgium in Leuven Thursday 29 August, before travelling to Bergen to take on their World Cup quarter-final opponents Norway on Tuesday 3 September.
