Philippe Clement accused of using Rangers player as scapegoat after Dundee United stalemate
Philippe Clement has been accused of hanging Cyriel Dessers out to dry after hooking the Rangers striker at half-time.
The much-maligned Nigerian lasted just 45 minutes against Dundee United after Clement made a double sub at the break, with his side trailing 1-0. Dessers and Mo Diomande made way for Danilo and Ianis Hagi as under-fire Clement attempted to salvage the game and possibly his job. Brazilian frontman Danilo did have a hand in Gers' equaliser as he assisted Vaclav Cerny but the Light Blues couldn't find a crucial winner as Celtic stretched their lead at the top to a staggering 11 points.
As things stand, Clement will remain in charge for Thursday's Europa League clash away to Nice. But ex-Ibrox striker Ross McCormack believes it's only a matter of time before the Belgian is put out of his misery. McCormack questioned Clement's decision to use Dessers as a scapegoat on Saturday, despite the fact the 29-year-old has dragged his manager out of a hole with crucial goals this season.

Firstly asked if Clement will be axed, McCormack told BBC's Scottish Football Podcast: "Listen, nothing shocks you in football but if they were going to do it, they would probably have done it before the international break. I think by all accounts, it's not happened yet but I think it may be delaying the inevitable to be honest.
"Most Rangers fans would have been happy by the news [if Clement was sacked]. I don't think there's a right or wrong time to do it, I just look at things that are happening right now at Ibrox and I'm not really comfortable with it.
"You look at the game at the weekend where he takes Dessers off at half-time. I mean, is that really deserving? He brought them back into the game in the semi-final, away to Olympiacos in the Europa League... I think there's a lot going on at Ibrox right now. Sometimes you can see the tide turning, maybe they get a performance or a result. But nothing seems to be going right."
