Philippe Clement bigs up Vaclav Cerny for silencing Rangers critics by finding his shooting boots
Philippe Clement has praised Vaclav Cerny for silencing his critics at Rangers with a series of impressive performances, including a match-winning strike against St Mirren.
Cerny, who is on loan from Wolfsburg, had previously been criticised for underperforming and was seen arguing with fans during a win over Hibs last month. However, he has since responded with two braces against St Johnstone and Steaua Bucharest, as well as the decisive goal against St Mirren.
Clement expressed his delight at seeing Cerny and Cyriel Dessers shine in the game against Saints. Speaking to BBC Sportsound after the 2-1 victory, he said: "He got a lot of stick three weeks ago from a lot of people, and that was his reaction (scoring five goals in four games). Those kinds of people, we need in the building."
"In that way I'm also happy with Cyriel with the energy he came in with, and how he gave the assist for the second important goal.["
Rangers are gearing up for a tough encounter with Aberdeen on Wednesday, and Clement is well aware that his side must step up their game to challenge the high-flying Dons. He emphasised the need for improvement, saying: "We need to be better that today. We need to be at the same level as Thursday. But it's a totally different game. It's now about recovering and being ready for Wednesday."
