Philippe Clement explains John Lundstram Rangers omission as midfielder dropped for Scottish Cup Final vs Celtic

John Lundstram will start the Scottish Cup Final on the bench as Philippe Clement revealed it's for fitness reasons.

The Rangers midfielder was shown a straight red card against Celtic the last time the two sides squared off and this afternoon at Hampden he won't start against their rivals this time. Clement was quizzed before kick-off as to why he opted for Nico Raskin in the midfield and the manager explained he wanted a "freshness" from his squad.

"It's also to do with fitness," Clement told BBC after he was asked how much the red card and suspension played a part in his call.

"John played a lot, a lot of minutes this season. Around 5000 minutes, so it's a lot of games, so we needed a bit of freshness and I expect a really intense start. Nico Raskin over the last couple of weeks was pushing really hard so we go for his intensity at the beginning of the game. Maybe Lunny will come later on in the game."
