Philippe Clement reveals Rangers offer Dundee Utd REJECTED despite travel chaos and delayed kick off
Philippe Clement has revealed that Dundee Utd rejected an offer from Rangers to head straight to Ibrox for their pre-match meal and team meeting.
United have been on the road from Dundee since 9.30am and had still not arrived at the Govan ground by 2.50pm due to an accident on the snow covered roads, meaning the Premiership clash has been pushed back to 3.45pm. Clement says Gers offered United use of facilities at Ibrox to try and speed things up and get the game going, but this was rejected by the Tannadice club, who preferred to head to a hotel as planned.
Asked if the delay was any sort of advantage to the hosts, the Belgian told BBC Scotland: "No, because we offered (Dundee United) to come here and have food and have a meeting room and everything. But they prefer to go to the hotel first rather than come here.
"They chose to make that preparation before the game. We need to focus on our own game and our own things."
Captain James Taverner is dropped for this one in favour of Dujon Sterling and Clement explained why, saying: "Dujon had a long period when he had an injury problem and could not go fully the last few weeks. He's feeling better and need sa a rhythm to go to his best level."
Asked if Tavernier is no longer his first choice right back, Clement insisted: "There are no number ones or number twos in our squad. If you see how many games we have, it's impossible for outfield players. - goalkeeper is possibly the exception - to play all those games. So we need to have everybody ready."
