Liverpool are busy preparing for the new Premier League season under head coach Arne Slot.

The Dutchman is taking charge of pre-season training at the AXA Training Centre ahead of his first season as head coach of the Reds. Liverpool will travel to the United States later this month for a series of friendly fixtures across the Atlantic against Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Off the pitch, Liverpool are continuing to be linked with several potential new signings in the summer transfer window. The Reds are yet to make any new additions to their squad ahead of Slot's first season as head coach at Anfield.

Philippe Coutinho completes transfer

Former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho has completed a move to Brazilian club Vasco da Gama.

Coutinho, who left the Reds in a £142 million move to Barcelona in January 2018, has joined Vasco da Gama on a season-long loan deal. The 32-year-old has left Aston Villa on a temporary basis and will now be playing his football at the club he started his career in his homeland.

Villa confirmed on Wednesday that Coutinho has left the club to return to Brazil on loan. Coutinho spent last season on loan in Qatar with Al Duhail, and now his career will see him spend another campaign on loan from his club.

Diogo Jota sent pre-season return message

Former Liverpool star Steve Nicol has told Diogo Jota why the forward would be wise to return for pre-season training as soon as possible.

Jota was with the Portugal squad at Euro 2024 which lost to Spain in the quarter-final last week. The Reds No.20 will now enjoy a summer break before returning to Merseyside for pre-season training.

However, Slot believes that Jota should not have a break and instead return to Liverpool to feature in Slot's pre-season preparations.

“If I’m Diogo Jota I’m going straight to the training camp, I’m not having a break,” Nicol told ESPN.

“For two reasons: One, you want to get in the team, you want to get into the starting XI, you want to be one of the three that we think is going to be playing up-front. But he’s also missed a lot of last season. So, fatigue or anything like that isn’t going to come into his thinking.

“If I’m him as soon as I can I’m getting my boots and I’m getting myself down to Anfield and making sure that I start training and start showing this guy [Arne Slot] what I’m all about.”
