Phillies SP Clay Buchholz undergoes arm surgery, out 4-6 months

Buchholz was diagnosed last week with the partial tear of the flexor pronator mass in his right arm.

Phillies starting pitcher Clay Buchholz underwent successful surgery Tuesday on thepartial tear of the flexor pronator mass in his right arm.

The surgery was done by Dr. James Andrews. Buchholz won't require Tommy John surgery butwill reportedlymiss 4-6 months.

Buchholz, who joined the Phillies this offseason after 10 years with the Red Sox, has struggled with his fitness and form since 2010 when he went 17-7 with a 2.33 ERA.

Right-hander Zach Eflin was called up from Triple-A to start in Buchholz's spot Tuesday night against the Mets. Eflin could remain in the rotation long term.
