Pierluigi Gollini has said that he is happy to stay at Tottenham but will also gladly return to Serie A if the chance presents itself this summer.

The goalkeeper moved to London on loan from Atalanta last summer, with Spurs having an option to buy. They brought him in as back-up to No. 1 stopper Hugo Lloris, who has nevertheless showed no signs of slowing up.

In fact, the 35-year-old Frenchman has played another 42 games this season, taking his Tottenham total to 416.

Meanwhile, Gollini has made only 10 outings and none in the Premier League. What’s more, eight came before the turn of the year.

As a result, there has been lots of speculation about whether Tottenham will keep their loan player or let him leave.

Torino are reportedly chasing a deal to bring Gollini back to Serie A. Speaking to the DAZN Talks podcast, though, the stopper has admitted that he is planning for either eventuality.

“Satisfied with the experience? It’s normal that I was hoping to play a bit more, but I knew from the beginning that I would play the cups and Lloris the league,” the 27-year-old said.

“I was playing the Conference [Europa Conference League], and we went out without having played; we had nine cases of Covid, and they didn’t let us postpone the game. Carabao? Out in the semi-final with Chelsea and then in the FA Cup, the last one, the coach decided not to do any turnover.

“I played 11 games and was lucky enough to train with Lloris. You can grow even if you don’t play, although there are things you only learn on the pitch, like the mistakes you make to improve.

“If you have the right head, even observing certain environments, you can learn. In football, as in other environments. I always thought that you have to make the best out of the situation. If you have the idea of wasting time, you always lose it.

“What future for me? I tell the truth: if I could, I would stay at Tottenham, I feel very good here; I am very attached to this group and the club.

“If they decide to keep me, I will be happy to stay. Otherwise, if we split up, I would like to go back to Italy. I love my home, the Serie A. Right now, I don’t know anything yet.”

Tottenham should keep Gollini

Clearly, Gollini has gelled well with his team-mates and has not been affected by his lack of game time.

He has therefore been ready to step up when required, even if he has only played two games since 2022 began.

Lloris has signed a new contract which runs until 2024 and so Gollini may have to continue to wait to get more action.

However, he will be learning off the France captain who has been one of the few mainstays in the Spurs team amid their tumultuous last few seasons.

As such, Tottenham should sign Gollini up and wait for the Italian to get his chance to prove himself.
