Manchester City could be facing a losing battle in their bid to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer with Borussia Dortmund’s chief executive claiming the Gabon striker is only interested in a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona if he leaves the German club.
Aubameyang is contracted to Dortmund until June 2020 but the club are expected to cash in on the £70 million rated forward during the close season if a huge offer comes in.
The 27-year-old is one of Pep Guardiola’s targets as the City manager prepares for a huge overhaul of his playing squad this summer.
But Hans-Joachim Watze, the Dortmund CEO, has claimed City will be wasting their time because Aubameyang has his sights set on a move to Real or Barcelona in La Liga if he does go.
Aubameyang has previously spoken of a desire to play for Real in order to fulfil a promise to his grandfather.
“I think he will stay with us,” Watze said on Sport1’s Doppelpass programme. “But if Real Madrid or Barcelona come along with an offer, maybe he’ll think about it.
“The rest of the clubs who are interested in him are not really an alternative for him. And certainly not Bayern [Munich] because we wouldn’t allow him join them.”
City are also interested in Arsenal’s Chile forward Alexis Sanchez and Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.
