Piers Morgan believes he caught Covid-19 during the chaos at the Euro 2020 final despite being fully vaccinated.

The former Good Morning Britain presenter, 56, claims he was infected amid England’s defeat to Italy at Wembley where ticketless fans swarmed the stadium two weeks ago.

He further revealed how a strong fever, violent coughing, chills and sneezing fits left him exhausted and fearing what might come next.

An avid critic of the government’s pandemic policies, he said his ordeal has given him a new perspective on Covid and vaccines.

“So it’s been a long ten days,” Piers said in a tweet on Saturday.

“Yes, it’s certainly been one of the more interesting and unnerving experiences of my life, but it gave my a new perspective on Covid, vaccines and where we are.”

Piers, who has had both shots of the Oxford AstraZeneca jab, believes he caught the Delta variant at the match.

Officials had assured fans that only those who had been fully vaccinated or had a negative Covid test could attend the event.

“This is definitely the roughest I’ve felt from any illness in my adult life, but, as I slowly come out the other side, coughing and spluttering,” Piers writes in the Mail on Sunday.

“I’m still here, unlike so many millions around the world who’ve lost their lives to Covid in this pandemic.

“For that, I owe a heartfelt debt of thanks to the brilliant scientists up in Oxford who created the AstraZeneca vaccine with such astonishing speed.”

After the England vs Italy final, Piers began experiencing symptoms and a lateral flow test came back positive. A PCR test further confirmed the result.

A respiratory expert explained that no vaccine currently fully protects against coronavirus with some of the new variants, but that they all protect against hospitalisation or death.

Piers, who suffered strange aches and alarming chest pains, has now recovered from his symptoms but says his voice has a low pitch.

“My voice now sounds like Barry White, though I couldn’t feel less like a Walrus of Love,” he added.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid also contracted coronavirus despite being fully vaccinated, forcing the prime minister and chancellor into isolation.

He has now made a full recovery.

Boris Johnson’s quarantine in his Chequers country residence is expected to end late on Monday.

Research shows the AstraZeneca vaccine is around 70% effective at stopping the transmission of Covid and 80% effective at stopping severe illness from Covid.

Another study found that just a single dose of the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine provided just 10 per cent protection against the Delta variant.
