Barcelona’s first ever mixed-sex tour ended up a PR disaster as their women’s team were forced to fly Economy as their men’s side lapped up Business Class.

In what was billed as a unique event, the two teams were touring the United States together and the Spanish giants were clearly keen to make a big thing of it.

The two teams were snapped boarding the plane together with photos hitting social media as soon as they took to the air.

But the problems started as soon as the two teams were greeted by air stewards and stewardesses as they went to find their seats.

Although the women’s team were sent to the back, none of their players seemed to cause a fuss.

It was the fans online who spotted the big division between the sexes with the ladies shunted into so-called ‘cattle class’ – and they wanted answers.

While the men were sipping champagne and enjoying the high life, the girls were in with the screaming kids and cheap packets of peanuts.

Barca’s Alexia Putellas said: “There were not enough business class seats on the plane once the women’s team joined the tour – and that it had allocated two to three seats each for every female player in economy class for their comfort.”

Putellas told Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo that the women’s team had been added to the tour at a later date – and that the club had “to organise everything practically at the last minute”.

All eyes will be on social media as well as the skies later today.

The teams leave part one of their US tour in Portland tonight and fly to Los Angeles for the second leg, where the men’s team meet Tottenham Hotspur.
