Kevin Nancekivell and Joe Edwards are expected to remain in temporary charge of Plymouth Argyle for the Emirates FA Cup third round tie at Brentford on Saturday, although it is thought a new head coach could be appointed before then.

Nancekivell and Edwards stepped in after the New Year's Eve departure of Wayne Rooney and have guided the Pilgrims to two successive draws, 2-2 against Bristol City at Home Park and 0-0 away to Stoke City.

The aim has always been for Argyle to complete the recruitment process for a head coach before the FA Cup clash in west London and all the indications are that they are on track to do that.

Nancekivell spoke at a Press conference at Home Park this afternoon and was asked whether he expected to still be in temporary charge against Brentford. "I would have thought so, but I think the club are hoping someone will be in place either before or around it," he replied. "Until I'm told different, I carry on preparing."

On the prospect of the new head coach being at the FA Cup tie, Nancekivell said: "He could be sat anywhere watching it or he could be sat next to me. We will have to wait and see.

"I think it's exciting. The sooner the search for a new manager comes to a head the better and we can all move forward."

Former League One title-winning manager Steven Schumacher continues to be the favourite for the Home Park vacancy with both Bet Victor and Sky Bet.

Former New Zealand national team manager Anthony Hudson has appeared in the betting market over the past 24 hours but is not believed to be under consideration for the Argyle post. He is currently the head coach of Qatar Stars League club Al Arabi.
