Plymouth Argyle linked with January move for Swedish midfielder
Plymouth Argyle are considering making a bid for 23-year-old Swedish midfielder Fredrik Hammar in the January transfer window, according to a report in the Scandinavian media.
Hammar played 25 times for Stockholm-based Hammarby during the 2024 Allsvenskan season, which ended last weekend, as they finished runners-up to Malmo. He has previously represented his country at the under-17 and under-19 age groups.
Argyle appear to be targeting the Scandinavian market for new recruits to their squad. Towards the end of the summer transfer window they made unsuccessful attempts to sign Ghanian midfielder Michael Baidoo from Swedish side Elfsborg.

The Pilgrims then turned their attention to Swedish midfielder Rami Al Hajj, who they brought to Home Park on deadline day for a fee of around £840,000 from Danish club Odense.
Now they have been linked with Hammar by Swedish newspaper Sportbladet, who first reported their interest in the signing of Baidoo. In their story about Hammar, they said: "According to Sportbladet's information, Plymouth Argyle have scouted the midfielder in the autumn - and may make an offer this winter.
"Hammar played 25 games for Hammarby during the past season. The midfielder came to Hammarby in January 2022 and has become extremely popular with the supporters. His contract expires in December 2027 but he is now in high demand for a move already this winter."
Sportbladet reported that a couple of other un-named Championship clubs were also interested in Hammar, as well as teams from Belgium and the Netherlands. The holding midfielder has previously played in England as part of Brentford's B squad for two years from January 2019.
Hammar made one first team appearance for the west London club, as a substitute in a 1-0 home FA Cup third round win against Stoke City in January 2020.
