Pochettino greenlights ‘instant’ Chelsea move for Liverpool hero that’ll break Klopp’s heart
Mauricio Pochettino has personally ordered the signing of former Liverpool winger Sadio Mane during negotiations with Chelsea, and news out of Germany suggests a deal can be made, per reports.
Mane left Liverpool last summer when joining Bayern Munich for an initial £27.4m. Many questioned the logic of Liverpool selling one of their fabled front three, though their decision begun to look justified as the season wore on.
Indeed, the 31-year-old has scored just seven times in 22 Bundesliga appearances and Bayern are embroiled in an unusually close scrap with Borussia Dortmund for the title.
Mane also hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons a fortnight ago when punching teammate Leroy Sane.
Sane was left with a bloodied lip and Mane was subsequently suspended for Bayern’s clash with Hoffenheim and fined roughly €500,000.
The souring situation led to speculation Mane could be a one and done in Bavaria. Adding fuel to that fire was the claim from Sky Germany that Bayern will axe a frontline winger at season’s end.
Their reporter, Florian Plettenberg, tweeted “Bayern is very open to sell at least one winger in summer”. Serge Gnabry is a contender to make way, as is Mane.
Football Insider subsequently reported Chelsea had registered their interest in bringing Mane back to England. The Blues have been wasteful in the extreme in front of goal this season and Mane is as proven as they come in the Premier League.
Fabrizio Romano stressed he’s heard nothing to suggest a Mane to Chelsea move is gathering pace. However, FI have stuck to their guns and doubled down with a remarkable new report.
Pochettino greenlights ‘instant’ Mane move
The online outlet claim Chelsea’s odds-on next manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has ‘given the move the green light during his own contract situations.’
FI echo the claims Bayern are open to cashing in on Mane and a bid of £30m will reportedly be enough to seal a deal.
A move for Mane could reportedly be an ‘instant’ affair, with Bayern’s willingness to sell and Chelsea’s desperate need for firepower meshing well.
If FI have got the drop and Mane is in line to return to England by joining Chelsea, the move will no doubt go down like a lead balloon up at Anfield.
Mane is a modern day Liverpool legend and was instrumental in helping the Reds lift their first league title in 30 years.
The prospect of seeing Mane join a bitter Liverpool rival in the form of Chelsea will be unpalatable in the extreme for many on Merseyside.
