England arrived at the tournament with a new manager in Roy Hodgson and expectations at their lowest for many years.

The opening draw with France drew a mixed reception from pundits and fans alike, with many upset at the Three Lions’ negativity but others pointing to a newfound realism in the camp.

A more adventurous 3-2 win over Sweden got a nation used to big-stage underachievement believing again, with Danny Welbeck finishing a sublime winner.

Their last-eight place was assured with a narrow win over hosts Ukraine on Monday, with a poor performance somewhat overlooked as Hodgson’s men topped Group D to avoid defending European and world champions Spain.

Italy drew both of their ‘Group of Death’ opening games against La Furia Roja and Croatia and secured their spot in the quarters with a 2-0 win over a disappointing Republic of Ireland side.

With neither side firing on all cylinders but proving difficult to beat, who will triumph and face Germany in the semi-finals?
