Cristiano Ronaldo is Europe's top footballer, coming off the back of a club season in which he scored 57 goals for Real Madrid as they won the Spanish league. However, he is yet to find the net in Poland and Ukraine and failed to convert two clear-cut chances against Denmark on Wednesday.
Robin van Persie did open his account for the tournament in Netherlands' defeat to Germany, but his well-taken strike could not mask another lacklustre display from the Premier League's double-Footballer of the Year.
Italy striker Mario Balotelli seems to veer uncontrollably from the sublime to the ridiculous, but it was a case of plenty of the latter and little of the former in the Azzurri's opening match against Spain.
