Posta Rangers beat Mathare United at home

Omollo was found guilty of violent conduct after he punched Sofapaka coach Sam Ssimbwa during a match at Narok Stadium

Posta Rangers moved to the second position on the Kenyan Premier League table after managing a 1-0 win against Mathare United at Thika Municipal Stadium on Monday.

Posta Rangers came into the match targeting positive result considering the fact that Mathare United had won all legs last year.

The mailmen started the match on a high note pinning the Francis Kimanzi's side to their own half. It was a good tactical move from head coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo that eventually paid dividends in the 21st minute.

Andrew Mukaisi got the ball outside the 18-yard box and curled it past desperate keeper Levis Opiyo to give Posta Rangers a deserved lead.

In the 40th minute, the mailmen could have doubled the advantage against wasteful Mathare United, but this time round, a Jockins Atudo’s well-timed header was cleared off the line to ensure the scores remain the same in the first half.

The mailmen's experience and hunger seemed too much for the ‘Slum boys’ as they controlled the ball with ease.

With half-an-hour to go, the ‘Slum boys’ failed to take another opportunity, this time round Cliff Nyakeya getting the ball in a good area, but failed to beat Patrick Matasi with his weak effort.

At the end it was Rangers who walked home smiling as Mathare United go home heads down after another defeat in the league.
