Potential Alfie May reunion for Cheltenham Town in EFL Trophy second round, with Birmingham City one of four possible opponents
Cheltenham Town could be set for a reunion with their record EFL goalscorer next month.
Alfie May's Birmingham City - sitting second in League One - are one of four potential opponents for Michael Flynn's Robins in the second round of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, with the draw taking place on Friday evening.
The other teams Cheltenham could meet in the last 32 are AFC Wimbledon of League Two and League One pair Cambridge United and Stevenage.
May, 31, has scored six goals since joining Birmingham from Charlton Athletic in the summer.
He netted in both of his appearances against Cheltenham last season, helping the Addicks to a win double over his old club, where he netted 67 goals in all competitions including 58 in the league - nearly 20 clear of previous record holder Julian Alsop.
Cheltenham qualified from their group with a perfect record, winning at Newport County AFC before home victories over West Ham United Under-21s and Reading, securing a guaranteed home tie in round two.
Their three wins also earned them a total of £30,00 in prize money, along with the £20,000 every club receives for entering.
A second round win secures £20,000, with ties taking place during the week commencing December 9.
The competition remains regionalised until the quarter-final stage
* Cheltenham play Tranmere Rovers at home in League Two on Friday evening, with Arkell Jude-Boyd due back from international duty with St Lucia after missing Saturday's 3-2 defeat at MK Dons.
