Fabrizio Romano has given an insight into the deal which will take Tanguy Ndombele to Napoli f0r the 2022/23 season, with Tottenham set to pick up a decent amount of money.

Tottenham made Ndombele their record signing in summer 2019 by paying Lyon £54million for him. As such, the central midfielder arrived in north London surrounded by big expectations.

However, it has not gone to plan for Ndombele or Tottenham. The player has failed to get the full trust of several managers, including Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and more recently Antonio Conte.

Last term, Ndombele made nine Premier League outings for Tottenham between the start of the season and January. This doesn’t sound too bad, though he didn’t play a full 90 minutes in any of those matches.

At Conte’s insistence, Spurs put Ndombele on loan the market. And the 25-year-old went on to re-join Lyon for the remainder of the campaign.

Lyon paid Spurs £1.2m in loan fees and had the option to re-sign him permanently for £54m this summer. This would have seen Spurs recoup all of their money on him.

But Lyon didn’t take up this opportunity, leaving the north London side stuck with Ndombele.

Newcastle and Villarreal have both set their sights on him in recent weeks. Instead of signing Ndombele, Villarreal ultimately went for his Spurs team-mate Giovani Lo Celso.

Napoli best placed to land Tanguy Ndombele

Newcastle appear to have dropped out of the race, and it is now Serie A club Napoli who look set to land Ndombele.

Spurs and Napoli came to an agreement on Sunday. And Romano now provides an update.

He states Napoli will pay most of the Frenchman’s wages. As per Salary Sport, he takes home £120,000 a week. So Napoli paying a majority of this will be helpful for Spurs.

Luciano Spalletti’s team have agreed to pay a €1m loan fee, which works out at £842k.

While Spurs were never going to get all of the £54m they paid for Ndombele back, they have done well to insert a decent buy option into the deal with Napoli.

Should Ndombele do well in Italy, then Napoli can purchase him for £21m (€25m). The clause will become active in June 2023.

According to Romano, the move is now down to the final details with regards to the player and his agent.

And the transfer journalist ends his tweet by stating Ndombele will replace Fabian Ruiz at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. That’s because Ruiz, a former Arsenal target, is gearing up to join Paris Saint-Germain.

It makes sense for Spurs and Ndombele to part ways now. The player clearly has little chance of making it into Conte’s starting eleven.

And he doesn’t want to spend the next few months on the bench, especially with the Qatar World Cup edging closer.

The midfielder now needs to get his confidence back up by putting in several good performances at Napoli. This could convince the Italian outfit to spend money and capture him permanently, ending Ndombele’s Spurs nightmare.

Meanwhile, Jamie O’Hara has spoken about how two Spurs players performed in the fierce clash against Chelsea over the weekend.
