With Premier League survival at stake, the predicted Leeds team to face Brentford could see injury-troubled Patrick Bamford called upon for threat up top.
Leeds have struggled for any sort of form in their bid for survival in the top flight recently. Their last win came six games ago. Since then, they have secured two draws, and lost the other three matches.
The Whites managed a draw against Brighton last time out, courtesy of a last-gasp equaliser. The other draw they managed in that run was a 0-0 against Crystal Palace.
Between those two points, they suffered a convincing 4-0 loss against Manchester City, a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal, and a 3-0 loss at the hands of Chelsea.
They have been without star striker Bamford for the last seven games. But with the Whites needing to better Burnley’s result on the final day to stay up, the striker could make a return, in order to add some threat in front of goal, as Leeds have scored just two goals since their last victory.
Jesse Marsch hinted at the possibility of the striker returning in his pre-match press conference. He mentioned he has looked “really good” in training, and a decision is to be made on whether or not he makes the side.
There are other injury troubles in the Leeds side, as has been a feature of their season. Robin Koch was forced off last time out, but Marsch confirmed the defender is ready “from the start”.
Last time out – Leeds 1-1 Brighton
With a host of injuries in the squad, the Leeds side was not at full strength, with a few vital assets missing.
Illan Meslier started in net. The two full backs were Koch and Junior Firpo – both Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas are out with injuries. Ayling has had surgery on a knee issue and would have been suspended anyway.
At centre-back, captain Liam Cooper played alongside Diego Llorente.
Kalvin Phillips started his fifth successive game, following his return from injury. The England international partnered Mateusz Klich in holding midfield.
Ahead of them, star man Raphinha and Jack Harrison played on the flanks, with Rodrigo between them.
Youngster Joe Gelhardt started just his fourth league game of the season, and provided the assist to Leeds’ equaliser. Daniel James had deputised up top often while Bamford has been out, but is suspended for the rest of the season, following a red card against Chelsea.
Predicted Leeds team against Tottenham
Meslier will no doubt remain in net. With a dearth of options at the back, Koch and Firpo are likely to play in the full-back positions.
Llorente and Cooper may also remain in the side at centre-back. Phillips will no doubt retain his spot, and play alongside Klich once again in the holding-midfield positions.
Creative sparks Raphinha, Rodrigo and Harrison are likely to play again. Each of those stars has a goal in them, and Marsch will hope that is the case this weekend.
The manager is likely to throw caution to the wind, given the Whites’ Premier League status is on the line. With that being said, Bamford may just return to the side, with Leeds hoping he can find the net, and keep them in the top flight.
